About Deborah Scannell
Asheville Photographer, Deborah Scannell captures mother natures splendor along the Appalachian Mountains region, the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, US state parks, and east coastal regions.
After a 23 year career as an Interior Designer & Kitchen & Bath designer, Deb went on to another life long love, photography. After graduating the Photography Institute, Deb continued her studies and self-taught the art of Interior Photography as well as Nature Photography, and several other branches of photography. Her work is featured in many local and regional magazines. Her nature work reaches people in various countries across the globe. Her work has an intriguing quality through her keen ability to find and capture the light and strives to evoke the full potential of emotion, from the scene.
Deborah's nature work is featured throughout the region and abroad, and consistently delivers interesting perspectives filled with emotion and soul. She is one of the area's most captivating nature photographers and has a penchant for our Blue Ridge Parkway, Great Smoky Mountain National Park and Environs, and photographs them in their awesome seasonal splendors!
It is said that Ms. Scannell's work has a "three dimensional" visual affect which she creates through her ability to capture the play of light on a scene. Deborah has recently dedicated a new gallery on her website devoted to the the subject of light appropriately named, “The Light Chaser.” To clarify, Deborah says, "Photography is the intersection of composition, light, and timing. Sometimes it is the absence of light and what is NOT in the image that makes a good image. Knowing what to leave out could be as important as what to include." Continuing, she explains, "The absence of light is as important as light itself, as this is what gives shape and form to the subject of your image. Light cannot exist without darkness, and it’s that contrast that I work with. Revealing the gradients between light and dark is what we, as photographers, do. It is our artist's pallet."
Deborah says, "You get one chance to make a first and lasting impression, so make it count!" To coin a very old and very true phrase, "A picture is worth a thousand words." In Deborah Scannell's case, it is worth a thousand emotions as well.
